What To Expect After Your Family Photo Session
Now that you’ve had your family photos taken, you might be wondering what to expect after your photo session. Every photographer does things a little differently, so it’s a good idea to know what to expect.
Some photographers will email you all the images in a week or two. Others might send you a link where you’ll need to download the images. Another photographer might meet in person to deliver you a USB of your images.
A select few photographers offer a more in-depth experience where you can FEEL your images before you buy them. I’m one of those photographers. It’s hard to describe the feeling you get when you see your family photos for the first time in the studio. You’ll feel extreme joy and pride in your family. You’ll feel an unbelievable amount of love pouring out from the images. It will be like nothing you’ve ever experienced before and you’ll want that feeling to last forever. The good news is that it can!
Let’s talk about what you can expect in the weeks following your family photo session.
Timeframe
After your family photo session, I’ll get back to the studio and go through all the pictures from the day. I’ll choose the best ones and focus on just those. I tend to take a lot of extra pictures in case someone has their eyes closed or a stray stand of hair across their face, so there’s usually quite a few pictures to do through.
I’ll obsess over your images and make them just perfect for you. About 2 weeks after your session, once all your pictures are perfect and ready for you, I’ll have you meet me in the studio for your reveal session.
Reveal Session
Reveal sessions are the best part (other than the fun you had at your photo session) of your whole photography package. When you arrive at the studio, I’ll direct you to my sitting area where I’ll have a selection of drinks and refreshments available. I highly encourage you to bring your whole family (Grandma, Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles…everyone!). Everyone has a great time and the excitement in the room is almost tangible.
As we chat for a minute while waiting for everyone to arrive and get settled, you’ll see some of your family photos displayed on the memories wall. This is always a really fun way to see your family photos.
Once everyone is ready, I’ll direct your attention to the television and start a slideshow of your images. You’ll see an example of what your family album could look like and some wall art options that have been designed for you.
After you’ve seen all the images, you’ll simply choose the pictures you absolutely love. You’ll never pay for an image you don’t love.
If you’d like an album, we’ll customize it together at the reveal session and get it ordered for you. You’ll be able to see sample albums and choose your cover options from the swatches I have in the studio. If you’d like any of the printed images you see in the studio, those will be available to take home that day.
Ordering
If you order any prints, they usually arrive with 3-5 days and can be delivered to your home.
Album orders can take 6-8 weeks, so be sure to order any gift albums early, especially during the holiday season.
If you aren’t ready to order anything at your reveal session, that’s fine too! I’ll send you a digital gallery for you to browse at your convenience. You can easily order prints at any time right from your gallery. You can even share a link to your gallery so your family across the country can order any prints they would like.
Let’s just say, your family photo session includes more than just the time we spend taking your pictures. The photo shoot is just the beginning! You might be wondering why I don’t just give my clients all the digital images, like so many other family photographers. The answer for me is simple. I value the printed image more than words can express.
I go into more detail about my “why” in .
